What is a twinkie?

A Twinkie is a brand of snack cake that is a golden sponge cake filled with a creamy, vanilla-flavored filling. It was invented by James Alexander Dewar in 1930 and is produced by Hostess Brands. The Twinkie has become a cultural icon in the United States and has appeared in various movies, TV shows, and books. Despite its unhealthy reputation, Twinkies remain a beloved treat for many Americans. In 2012, Hostess Brands declared bankruptcy and temporarily ceased production of Twinkies, causing panic amongst fans. However, the brand was eventually purchased and Twinkies remain available for purchase today.
